About

Hey, I'm Raistlin

I’m Raistlin van Spronsen, a speed skating coach and photographer. I specialize in portrait and event photography in Dawson Creek, BC

I was born in New Westminster, BC, and relocated to Dawson Creek, BC, when I was 11. Despite spending nearly 11 years in a mild climate where winters was mostly rainy weather, over the past 20 years I’ve been accustomed to the cold winters and beautiful region that I now call home

I enjoy traveling, public transit and spending time with friends in the community. When I’m not busy working I can be found volunteering at local events or local organizations

Why Photography

My photography roots date back to 2009, when I was gifted a point-and-shoot camera as a birthday gift. Over the years, I’ve had many mentors (including one who was a coach with our club) who encouraged me to keep taking photos and learning.

I’ll always cherish the memories of capturing skating events during my travels, and watching old videos and looking at old photos taken with those point and shoot cameras

What Makes Me Different

With my nearly 20 years of being involved in speed skating, I’ve developed a bias for the sport (sorry to other sports). This gives me an added edge when capturing photos, as I’ve learned where to capture the best shots no matter what rink I’m in.

I’ve also worked many years in customer service and regularly share my latest images online. This allows me to make connections as members of the public see me not only where I work, but also often contact me when they need photographs taken
